Nicole, Veterinary Nurse, England
I started at Mbwa Wa Africa as the first volunteer Vet nurse assisting to open the vet clinic back in 2021 alongside the shelter which was funded by the incredible team at Four Steps to Freedom.
Initially agreeing to 3 weeks and not knowing what to expect, I ended up staying over a year and loved my time there.
Four Steps to Freedom are dedicated to supporting the MWA team to enable improvement in the health of every shelter animal as well as street dogs and owned pets coming through the doors.
Whether that be building new kennels blocks, catteries, vet clinic etc or supporting them with funds so that they can buy vital vaccinations/parasite control for all the animals in their care.
Jens and Sandra on the ground in Tanzania are incredible people who have devoted their souls to the shelter. I loved my time working alongside the team as well as helping to teach the local veterinary staff international standards, implementing protocols to the clinic as well as assisting in many neutering and vaccination campaigns - none of which would be possible without the continued support from Four Steps to Freedom.
I whole heartedly reccomend volunteering at Mbwa Wa Africa whether veterinary trained or not, there is a place for you and the help is so desperately needed! Mbwa Wa Africa will always have a special place in my heart and I will forever support them through fundraising with Four Steps to Freedom and visiting them in Tanzania to assist when I can.
P.S. I painted all the paw prints at the front of the old clinic building in the hope every volunteer would right their name and home country showing other volunteers the countries MWA has reached!
